Part 1: Overcoming your Blocks

Before We Begin… 

One of the biggest lessons (and challenges) that I have learned in business and life is that mindset is everything. 

What is a mindset? 

Your mindset is a set of beliefs that shape how you make sense of the world and yourself. It influences how you think, feel, and behave in any given situation.

How often have you had an idea but talked yourself out of it? We hold ourselves back, we overthink, procrastinate, criticise and get stuck, and that idea goes to the back of our mind never to be used.

Maybe you are just too scared because you don’t know how you are going to do it, so you get caught up in the what-ifs and the doubts that you can’t see the way forward. 

The biggest battle is with ourselves. We are our own worst enemy. 

I know that is true for me. Whenever I’m confused, unmotivated and frustrated, it’s because my mindset is on the wrong track. It’s a programme for failure. But, when I’m proactive, positive and motivated, I’m programmed for success. 

We just need to tap into the right mindset and condition ourselves for success so that we can make progress.

Overcoming Resistance

If you are struggling with getting to where you want to be, it’s because you are fighting some kind of resistance. Once you identify the resistance, you can move forward. 

How to identify your current mindset

Your mind is complex, and we often don’t realise what it is that we are thinking. In order to identify your mindset, you have to become aware of the repeating thoughts that pop into your head on a daily basis. 

Any goals that you may have for the future, personally or professionally, need you to change the way you think about it. To bring awareness to your thoughts, try activities like journaling or speaking to a therapist or friend. This is an effective way to get the thoughts out of your head. 

Types of Resistance Blocks


There are 3 main types of resistance that can hold you back. 

  1. What do you want to achieve? Lack of Clarity

    The first thing you need to do to find inventory management success is to be clear about what you want to achieve. What is the vision?
Setting Intentions to Elevate Goals

To truly achieve impactful results, start with setting intentions before goals. Why? Goals are concrete actions and tasks that you want to accomplish. It’s what you do or what you are going to do. An intention is an aim for change or impact that sets the direction for the action. They often reflect on why you do something.

Why you should start with intentions? Businesses often start with goals and then the sub-goals to complete projects within a set amount of time, which works. However, without setting an intention, the larger aim is lost. The intention directions and aligns the concrete goals that follow. If you just follow the goals, you might get stuck feeling obsolete or lose the greater impact. 

When you put energy into actions and progress, make sure that your actions are resulting in the impacts that are desired. 

ACTIVITY! Take some time to write down where you want your inventory management to be, and what it is like. Get clear on what you want to see. 

Tip! Setting intentions will help you to start manifesting them into your life.

Tip! You need to set intentions annually, monthly, weekly and daily.

Once you have clarity on what you can do, then you can start building a game plan for being even more intentional. 

Build the Game Plan

Take time and break down the big goals that you need to take to reach them. 

ACTIVITY! Focus on the next 30 days, and answer the following questions:
What actions do you need to take to make this happen? When do you need to complete them?

2. Lack of Confidence


“The only thing that’s keeping you from getting what you want is the story you keep telling yourself.” ~ Tony Robbins

What you tell yourself is what you believe. That statement can play a huge role in how you perceive yourself and your feelings. If you have to think about it, you might discover a belief that is preventing you from being successful – also known as a limiting belief. 

ACTIVITY! What do you tell yourself about why you can’t achieve what you want? What causes you to feel less confident?

When working in a team, limiting beliefs can play a huge role in the disruption of projects for the entire team. For example, you might be close to a deadline and when offered assistance you will not accept it because you feel that people don’t trust you to finish the project. 

ACTIVITY! Use this exercise to identify your struggles. List the ways you have stopped yourself from achieving a goal.
Eg. Because I ……. I didn’t get to where I wanted to be. 

By identifying your limiting beliefs and developing a sense of self-awareness, you create an opportunity for improvement. This is empowering yourself, rather than limiting yourself. Teams that are doing the same thing will result in a high-functioning team. 

ACTIVITY! Do the same activity as above, but now list the ways you have achieved your goals.
Because I ……. I got to where I wanted to be. 

Remember that we are unable to change the things that happen to us or the circumstances that we will encounter, but what we can control is our responses. When you decide what kind of person you want to be to reach your goals, you can find the strength to take the steps needed to get where you want to go. 

ACTIVITY! Give yourself a new name and describe who the new you need to be to create the success you want to see?
Eg. Focused Freddy is a focused and determined Inventory Manager. He doesn’t let issues out of his control stress him out. He is calm and collected, able to come up with innovative solutions. 

3. Lack of Competence

If you don’t have the skills to move forward and execute, it is going to hold you back. This is a fear that most people don’t want to admit to. Many people will resist trying something because they don’t know-how.

ACTIVITY! Take some time to figure what new skills you need to learn. What do you need help with?

Overcoming the Mindset Blocks

The first step is to identify your recurring thoughts. The second step is to actively find ways to keep going, despite any negative self-talk. 

Find ways to stay motivated, learn new things and challenge yourself.
