Locate Inventory to be Acquired by Xero

November, 2021

In this blog post, I’m going to share some unexpected news, and that is Xero has announced it is acquiring LOCATE Inventory. As you will read in this article, Xero plans to embed LOCATE’s inventory management capability, talent and expertise into its business and focus on building a new cloud inventory management solution for small businesses, accountants and bookkeepers. The new Xero inventory solution will be first available to US customers initially and then other regions later.

I’m sincerely excited about what this means for the future of Xero. Those who know us, know how much we love Xero as a product and LOCATE as well. It’s why we have loved working so closely with Xero over the past 12 years and with LOCATE over the past 2 years and driving their expansion out of the US into Australia and Asia.

The acquisition will mean LOCATE’s existing inventory management products won’t be available after October 10, 2022. LOCATE won’t be taking on any more new clients now and although this is not confirmed, highly likely no more major updates or features will be added. The LOCATE team will continue to support all existing customers until the product is sunsetted. For clients who signed their software contract with LOCATE in 2021 that are in good stead with both LOCATE and Xero, they will offer a US$5000 incentive to transition from LOCATE to one of the other comparable top inventory solutions which are still to be announced, if they move off LOCATE by 30 June 2022.

To be clear, companies can continue to use LOCATE until October 2022 but they need to move to another inventory solution, even if they are using Xero. Even if Xero has built some version of their new Xero inventory solution by this time, they won’t be accepting any new customers by the time of the sunset, so companies using LOCATE can’t wait for the new Xero inventory solution and just move from LOCATE Inventory to Xero inventory.

WAOConnect, as an inventory support partner, is dedicated to always assist our clients to find the best solution. It’s just a shame one of those great solutions is off the market for now and the future of Xero inventory is still unknown. What I do know is that with the LOCATE team involved in its development, Xero inventory should be an exciting addition.

We will be reaching out to all of our LOCATE Inventory clients to assist them as they migrate off of LOCATE Inventory onto alternative platforms.

If you have any questions regarding the sunsetting of LOCATE Inventory or how to migrate your systems, please let me know.
